Master Bedroom & Bathroom remodel
This project was a complete remodel of the upstairs Master Bedroom, Bathroom, Sitting Room and Closets. It involved relocating the sinks; the toilet; the tub; the shower; the closet; and the fireplace. This was the 2nd remodeling project that we completed for this client. During the design phase of this project, we discovered that the existing ductwork for the entire 2nd floor was coming-up through the middle of the Bathroom floor.
We were able to design the remodeled bathroom to accommodate the existing ductwork. The original closet was a typical wardrobe-style closet with sliding doors. The new closet is a walk-in closet with custom, built-in drawers and shelving. The original countertop was cultured marble with a simple 4″ cultured marble backsplash and large mirror above. The new countertop is solid quartz material with a glass tile backsplash and lighted mirrors above each sink.
There are 2 sink areas plus a dropped countertop area for a sit-down vanity. All of the cabinets were custom made with no particle board or MDF materials. The original fireplace faced into the Sitting Room, only. The new 2-sided gas fireplace faces the Bedroom and the tub. The original tub was set in a tiled platform. The new free-standing soaking tub is set in an open area on new wood flooring. The original toilet was in an alcove with the shower. The new toilet is in it’s own room. The original shower was a typical 36″ x 36″ tiled shower. The new shower is the center piece of the Bathroom and was the inspiration for the entire remodeling project.
It is a walk-in shower with 2 separate showering systems, 3 drains and no door. There is porcelain tile on the walls from floor to ceiling and basalt rock on the floor. Between the shower and the main area of the Bathroom, there is a clear glass partition with custom etching. Natural light and ventilation were a key component in designing this project. There are a total of 11 windows in the Bathroom: 2 in the toilet room; 3 in the shower and 6 above the tub. All 11 windows are openable. Finally, the remodeled Bathroom includes a microwave oven and an under-counter refrigerator. The Bedroom remodel included new windows, lighting and additional electrical.
Any Interesting Discoveries During the Project?
During the demolition phase, we discovered that there were electrical wires, refrigeration lines and a gas line running inside a raised section of the upstairs floor. This raised section of the existing Bathroom floor needed to be removed as part of the remodel. All of these wires and lines needed to be rerouted.
